  Just as there is formal and informal dress, so there is formal and informal speech. Consequently, the social content in which the communication is taking place determins both the mode of dress and the mode of spech. All these wecan be roughly classified into two: formal (a lecture, a speech in court, an official letter, etc.) and informal (an informal talk, an intimate letter) languages.
