  This composition is devoted to the 60th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. It is divided into 3 parts. The first part deals with the description of the Great Patriotic War, its date, the number of divisions which the hitlerites brought and the name of units, which shouldered the first enemy's blow. In the second part the reader has an opportunity to learn about the horrible fate which all the people of the village from Big Oak (Kursk Region) were to suffer. The third part relates the life of my grandfather, who was conferred the rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union, was rewarded by the order of Alexander Nevsky, the order of the Great Patriotic war of the 1st and the 2nd degrees.
